## Carlisle United part company with head coach Mike Williamson ### Williamson leaves after less than a year in charge of the Cumbrians Carlisle United have parted company with head coach Mike Williamson after less than a year in charge of the Cumbrians. The 38-year-old former Newcastle United defender was appointed in February 2022, but has been unable to turn around the fortunes of a side who are currently 23rd in EFL League Two. Carlisle have won just four of their 23 league games under Williamson, and have lost their last three matches. The club said in a statement: "Carlisle United can confirm that head coach Mike Williamson has left the club with immediate effect. "The club would like to place on record its thanks to Mike for his efforts during his time at Brunton Park and wish him well for the future." Williamson is the second manager to leave Carlisle this season, after Keith Millen was sacked in January. The Cumbrians are now searching for their third manager of the season, with the club's chief executive Nigel Clibbens saying: "We will now begin the process of recruiting a new head coach." Carlisle's next match is at home to Leyton Orient on Saturday.
